An 11-year-old boy who was killed in an off-roading accident on Sunday has been identified, and police continue to investigate the accident.
The accident claimed the life of Daniel Joseph Hattig Torre, according to Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola.
Espinola, who performed an autopsy on the boy on Monday, explained that he was permitted to disclose the identity because the boy's family has been informed of the death.
The boy's family couldn't be reached for an interview yesterday, but Yigo Mayor Robert Lizama confirmed they live in his village.
Torre was killed Sunday evening when a modified four-wheel-drive pickup rolled over while off-roading near LeoPalace Resort.
The boy was riding in the bed of the pickup truck, which lost control while descending a steep hill, said police officer Dennis Santos, a division supervisor who was investigating the accident scene.
Another boy, 15, who was also in the back of the vehicle, required medical attention, but wasn't severely injured, Santos said.
This accident occurred on a web of trails and muddy tracks that crisscross through the wilderness near LeoPalace, where off-roading is a common occurrence. Espinola said Monday that the autopsy revealed that the boy was killed by a skull fracture caused by the crushing force of the rolling truck.
